Surry County, NC, birthplace of Andy Griffith and location of Mt. Airy (the real-life Mayberry) is also the birthplace of John McGraw. His father, Samuel, was also born there. Just as we thrived in WV, the family there is still going strong. "The McCraws of Surry Co" are on Facebook! These McCraws are descended from Samuel's brother Francis Marion McCraw. Samuel and Francis' father was also named Francis and he owned land there. They have a reunion for their branch of the family tree the first Sunday after Labor Day. We have been in contact with them and they said that all who were interested would be welcome to come.
